High Speed Chase Results in Arrests in Barnard

Breaking news in Barnard…

At about 5 pm this evening, a rural Barnard resident noticed a suspicious looking car near the old Brockway and Biggs farms northeast of Barnard.  The occupants of the vehicle, a gold colored Saturn, tried to crouch down to avoid being seen.  The car then proceeded to speed towards Barnard.  The car came into Barnard along Mills at a high rate of speed, made a fast and wide turn onto Main Street and collided head on with a Barnard resident's truck.  The car left the scene of the crash with severe damage.  A concerned citizen, who witnessed the crash with his significant other and a neighbor, took off in pursuit of the suspects.  The owner of the truck, after inspecting his truck and hearing from a witness about another citizen's pursuit, followed after him.  911 was called and details given about the event.
Meanwhile, the suspects fled to K-14 and headed north then west on the Hunter highway.  After approximately four miles, the Saturn gave out and the suspects abandoned the car and fled on foot.  The male suspect returned to the car and tried to start it to no avail.  The Lincoln County Sheriffs arrived and took one male and one female into custody.  The car had Sedgwick County tags and the female suspect had a warrant out for her arrest in Saline County.  The male suspect exhibited odd behavior in the police car making faces and licking the widows.  This behavior made witnesses suspect that there may have been some sort of substance involved.
Once at the Lincoln County jail, the male suspect became violent in his cell.  An ambulance call for a prisoner was made at approximately 9:30 pm.  As more details become available, I will update this entry.
