Questions to Ponder by Charlene Watson

                                     Questions For You To Ponder
(Submitted by Charlene Watson)\

Why does a gynecologist leave the room when the patient gets undressed?
* If a person owns a piece of land do they own it all the way down to the core of the earth?
* Why can't women put on mascara with their mouth closed?
* Is it possible to brush your teeth without wiggling your bum?
* Why is it called Alcoholics Anonymous when the first thing you do is stand up and say, 'My name is Bob, and I am an alcoholic'?
* Why are they called stairs inside but steps outside?
* Why is there a light in the fridge and not in the freezer?
* Why does mineral water that 'has trickled through mountains for centuries' have a 'use by' date?
* Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, 'I think I'll squeeze these dangly things here and drink whatever comes out'?
* What do people in China call their best plates?
* Why does Goofy stand erect while Pluto remains on all fours? They're both dogs!
* Can blind people see their dreams?
* Why is a person that handles your money called a 'Broker'?
* If quizzes are quizzical, what are tests?
* If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, then what is baby oil made from?
* If a man is talking in the forest, and no woman is there to hear him, is he still wrong?  (Bill particularly likes this one)
* Why is it that when someone tells you that there are over a billion stars in the universe, you believe them, but if they tell you there is wet paint somewhere, you have to touch it to make sure?
* Do illiterate people get the full effect of Alphabet Soup?
* Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you but when you take him on a car ride he sticks his head out the window?

Lions Club Meeting Monday Night

Lions Club meeting is Monday, October 24th, at 7 p.m. at the Community Center in Barnard.

Photographic Tour of Barnard for Those Who Haven't Seen It.

Looking north from the bridge east of town.

Plaque on the bridge east of town.

Entering east of town.

Salt Creek north of the bridge.

Looking south on Cathanne.

Cathanne and Ballard.

The Barnard water tower.

Looking north on Section Line Road.  Barnard straddles two townships, Scott and Salt Creek.

One of my houses.  It is the oldest house in Barnard.  We aren't sure if it is restorable but plan to mothball it just in case we can.

Another shot of the oldest house in Barnard.  It was built in circa 1880.

I don't think this is the oldest garage in Barnard (smile) though it does go with the house.

Mills and Section Line Road looking west.

South on White Street

My little treasure that we are restoring to live in .  This is the old Saunders place which is the former home of the man who conceived the idea of the water tower and supervised its building.  Strange how the movement to save this tower is originating from this house as well.  The First Baptist Church is just to the south of us.  The Methodist Church is just across the street to the west.

First Methodist Church of Barnard

Baptist parsonage.

A glimpse of downtown.

The old Webster place.  It seems much larger on the inside than it does on the outside.

At the south end of Main Street.

This little gem is slated for demolition.  Behind the trees, it is in pretty decent shape.  The porch needs a little work.  This cottage needs to be saved...will you be the one?

Downtown, where all the lights are bright?

The new firestation.

The old firestation.  See why we got the new one?

Lions Club and Community Center.

City Hall is in the old bank building.

The old library houses the city tractor now.

The water tower...it is in danger of being torn down.  It is the only real significant piece of architecture left.  It was built by the WPA.

The old Barnard School.  High School closed in '66.  The grade school closed in '77.

413 Smith as it appears today...no house.  The house that was here was featured in a previous photo spread.

My little lovelies...they are so sweet and EXCELLENT judges of character.

Another of my little lovelies.  This one is named Travis...he is always hungry and a bit of a basket case.  Just like me :-)

A restorable victorian cottage.

This one really is restorable...wait until you see a sample of the inside.

It really is restorable...get ready....

This is the inside of that house.  The wallpaper is peeling but the plaster is intact.  The pocket doors will close all the way.  It is a gorgeous house.  It will be a future feature in the Banter.

The old section house built by the railroad.  It is the second oldest remaining house in Barnard.

I have always said that every house has a story.   God bless this house.
