Finches Relocate to Barnard

Dennis Finch and his family have moved into the parsonage of the Baptist church here in Barnard.  The Finches are not strangers to Barnard.  Dennis has been the pastor at the Baptist church for years but lived in Beloit while pastoring the churches here and in Simpson.

On an additional note...Dennis makes signs and other woodworking products.  An example of his handywork is in front of the Baptist church.  He also does general handyman work and is currently looking for workshop space.

Welcome to  Barnard!

Westar Rate Hikes

If you live in Barnard, you recently experienced a power outage lasting almost three days while people outside of the city limits were still enjoying the electricity that powers their homes.

However, did you know that Westar plans to institute plans that will shove about $27 million of rate increases onto residential customers while cutting rates to businesses?  The average customer may see rates increase as much as $15 a month in addition to the rate increases already inacted in the last two years.

I, frankly, would support dumping Westar and attaching to the Rolling Hills Cooperative power grid.  Yes, power flickers at times, but if you keep your computers and TV's on battery backups, you will never notice...except when you get the bill that will most likely be less than half of what you pay under Westar's policies.

This would be a utility improvement we could actually benefit from.
